  • Tuesday = Bluesday

Yesterday was Aubrey's birthday. He is 7. Back in October his class did an election using a program his teacher found online. They had to plan a campaign and spend time and money to earn imaginary electoral votes. Aubrey won. He had to write out the plan for his presidency. I just got it from his teacher on his last day of school. Here you go:

I would change that every tuesday would be bluesday. Then you would haf to ware something blue. Next on Sunday you would haf to ware red and something black. Next you save people. Next I want to keep the erath helthy. After I want to help dockters. At last I want to help the world.

The teacher wrote up a little news release.

    Aubrey Wins the General Election!

After several grueling months on the campaign trail, Republican Aubrey was declared the winner of the 2008 General Election as he won over 270 electoral votes.

A beaming Aubrey explained his campaign strategy by focusing on Homeland Security, Education, and Health Care. "Health care is very important because if we aren't healthy then we can't do things. We need security to stop bad guys from robbing stuff." Aubrey said.

Aubrey zeroed in on Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Florida. He also invested time and dollars in the Midwest and the Southwest, which earned him the necessary electoral votes to win the presidency.

"I like Georgia because my dad lives in this state," Aubrey said.

The new President will be sworn into office during the inauguration ceremonies on January 20.

  • I'm going to go check my daughter out of her old school today and bring her home.  Two years ago her brother had a fight with his dad and left angrily to come and stay with me.  I was in a huge state of transition and was in no way prepared to have him move in with me but of course I couldn't tell him no.  Part of me wishes I had asked him to wait because a couple of months later he chose to go back, having manipulated his dad into all sorts of compromises by leaving.  Our relationship suffered for a while.  Recently I told him that IF he wanted to come back again he would need to do what his sister had done and make a plan and talk to everyone about it.

I'm rambling now but the point of this entry is that today is the day my daughter comes to live with me again and I'm so happy about that.

  • New Old House

We're moving soon from a little duplex that has served us well to a beautiful farm style house that fits is to a T.  It has gorgeous hardwood floors and funny rambling rooms like a house that has stretched and changed to accommodate a growing family would.  It is on six acres.  There is a barn and a picnic table and a magnolia tree.  The kitchen is home to a gorgeous butcher block topped island.

It needs roses and a kitchen garden.  Aubrey says we need to get some sheep so Cash will have something to herd.  I can't wait to start discovering all the things we haven't noticed yet.

We sign the lease and pick up the keys in less than two weeks!  I think we should write the people who turned us down a thank you letter.  This house suits us so much better.

  • We were turned down for the house we wanted.  The way the owner handled it hit me particularly hard.  First she said no and that was fine.  I understood that we don't look great on paper and was fine with walking away.  Then she came back a couple of days later and said we could have the house with a bit more of a deposit.  We said that's fine we would do whatever she needed us to do.  The next day she took that offer away.  Said she had decided to sell.  I think that was a lie and she just had second thoughts.  I can't really explain why it hit me so hard but having to tell my daughter that she has to wait to move in was like losing her and her brother all over again.  I really struggle with the holidays every year.  I was doing ok this year until now.

Maybe I should explain why my big kids live with their dad.  Essentially it was because he had the money and thus the power in the divorce.  They were with me for four years and then after living with his threat to fight for custody all that time I finally gave in and let him have them.  It was the lesser evil.  He wasn't a bad father but hated me for leaving and wanted control.

  • Emily

I want to tell you all about my daughter.  She amazes me on a daily basis.  Here she is in a tree in my parents back yard on Thanksgiving day with her cousin.

She is so graceful and good.  She's a Virgo with Scorpio ascendant conjunct Pluto so she embodies this wise innocence.  She doesn't miss much but she wouldn't dream of being rude enough to point out your unspoken secrets OR her own.  Don't tell her fun secrets though because she's a big blabbermouth if it's something good.

Her cousin Sydney thinks she's the coolest big kid ever.

Today we had a spa day.  I cut and colored her hair.  We used henna so it's a gorgeous light auburn over her ash blond with her natural highlights shining through.  She was so thrilled about the results.  She said I'm a genius or something like that.

Here she is with my favorite k9 family member.  She wants to be an animal behaviorist.  She works with me at my shop and pulls as much weight as any of the adults.  I could barely order my own meal in a restaurant at her age but she answers the phone, books appointments, gives kennel tours and handles the animals with confidence and skill.

She and her big brother have lived at their dad's house most of the year for the last seven.  It's a long story for another post but she has recently expressed a desire to go switch to living with me primarily.  I think it's a good decision and brave of her to choose to let her dad know that she wants to go.  We're doing all we can to make it possible.  Wish us luck!
